The Vagabond Lawyer
A crook-legged scent hound of ancient heritage. This low-set Norman dog comes from the Basset Artésien-Normand. Our larger, massive dogs, with low earset, slightly sunken eyes, and pronounced dewlap were established by HRH Princess Alexandra of Denmark, and others.
This site is devoted to that wonderful, quirky hound, the basset hound. I welcome articles and information about bassets, including conformation, breeding, pedigrees, basset shows, field trials, obedience, health, and nutrition. Your contributions will be posted here for all to share.

Gorsedd Prayer (Saxon)
Grant, O God, thy protection,
And in protection, strength,
And in strength, understanding,
And in understanding, knowledge,
And in knowledge, the knowledge of justice,
And in the knowledge of justice, the love of it,
And in the love of it, the love of all existence,
And in the love of all existence,
The love of God and all Goodness.

My hounds are bred out of the Spartan kind,
So flew’d, so sanded, and their heads are hung
With ears that sweep away the morning dew;
Crook-knee’d, and dew-lapp’d like Thessalian bulls;
Slow in pursuit, but match’d in mouth like bells,
Each under each. A cry more tuneable
Was never holla’d to, nor cheer’d with horn,
In Crete, in Sparta, nor in Thessaly:
Judge when you hear. . . .
Theseus, Duke of Athens, from William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Act IV, Scene 1.
